BEEP BEEP- You're DUMPED.

Recent spates of dating and break-ups via Facebook, text messages and MSN messenger are fast becoming the norm resulting in a sea of bewildered expressions across parts of society.
While computers and mobile phones have their many advantages and there’s little argument they’ve made life much easier, one could pause to contemplate whether these gadgets are deviously making society lazier, more cowardly and spawning a new thread of people reluctant to engage in oral conversation.
Case one: Incredulous girl sat astounded early last night to discover she had been dumped via an online chat room.
Case Two: Woman was left gobsmacked upon receiving six text messages in succession (using exasperating shortened words to save on credit) notifying her of the immediate demise of her 2 year relationship.
Case Three: Love struck male receives 2000 word e-mail from his lady of 6 months reminding him how wonderful the Island of Singledom is for he has suddenly become its newest recruit.
Whatever happened to breaking up face to face where you had more hope of walking away with your maturity, dignity and self-respect still relatively intact whether you were the dumped or dumpee?
Swapping Facebook details seems to be becoming trendier than swapping phone numbers. Why bother calling when you can make your assumption of who the person may be based on who’s on their friends list, messages scribbled on their wall and the host of other information posted on their page.
For those of us who still prefer the face to face contact, should we now start preparing ourselves for this latest modus operandi in the relationship and dating game?
With technology offering an easy escape out of those awkward conversations, is it time to start getting used to receiving less than desirable news via written (and maddenly shortened) word?
